The Pacific needs our help
There is a high level of unmet need for family planning services in many countries in the Pacific. This is resulting in increasing incidence of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS. While the prevalence of HIV in the majority of Pacific Island Countries remains low, the numbers infected are growing and the rate of increase is alarming, particularly in Papua New Guinea.
Poorer countries depend heavily on donor funding for family planning and sexual and reproductive health services. We are therefore seeking funds to assist our partners in the Pacific to improve access to family planning and reproductive health services and to provide high quality and sustainable sexual and reproductive health training.
How the funds will be used
The funds will be used to:
- train teachers, nurse educators, peer educators and community educators in sexual and reproductive health and right
- assist with the development and production of family planning and reproductive health resources
- build the capacity of local family health associations so they are better able to respond to and address local sexual and reproductive health needs.
